Samsung has announced the launch of its latest 8500-series HDTVs that are said to feature a local dimming LED backlighting and a Yahoo widget engine for accessing internet based services such as news, weather, etc.
These 8500-series HDTVs are reported to use pure white LED backlight with local dimming that boosts the dynamic contrast ratio up to 7,000,000:1. This new LED panel is believed to improve the brightness and visibility in ambient light. Also they are said to feature Samsung’s Auto Motion frame interpolation technology that backs up the device’s 240 Hz refresh rate. The Yahoo engine is said to use a wired ` connection to bring the various widgets to screen. Also 2 USB ports have been provided.
Samsung 8500 HDTVs are available in 46-inch and 55-inch sizes. Priced at $3599.99 for 46-inches and $4499.99 for 55-inches, these sets are expected to start shipping this September.
