Plasma TV was declared dead by LCD fans and now plasma TV technology is regaining its popularity with the technology trying to stick on to the market share.Plasma technology has now become newer than LCD. But during the last couple of years, plasma technology has suffered a set back due to the economical screen and cheaper technology from its rival. Plasma is back on to its track with the new 3D technology introduced in it.
According to DisplaySearch, market analyst, during the first quarter of the year, 3.39m plasma TVs were sold. This is a rise of 21.4% for the same first quarter of the year last year.
Panasonic has reported an increase in the sales of almost 30% between January and March. During this period, Panasonic could sell 1.21m units. And during this period, LG could sell 844,000 units(up to 39%) and Samsung could sell 981,000 plasma sets (up to 39%).
Additional 3D plasma TVs models including 42in and 46in will be launched by Panasonic this september at IFA in Berlin. In Korea, LG has recently come out with the new 50in and 60in 3D plasma screens.
