Pioneer PDP-508XD Plasma TV integrates two vital features of a high end Plasma TV - new plasma screen design with innovative technologies like PUREBLACK Panel 2 and Direct Colour Filter 2. The Kuro screen of this TV delivers the best picture quality that we have ever viewed in recent times. The pictures show improved brightness and contrast, image accuracy and deeper black levels. This 50″ plasma tv also incorporates various Picture-in-Picture modes and enhanced presets to provide you the optimum performance. Although Plasma TV is not a 1080p TV, it can accept full HDTV resolution. The picture quality is excellent both when you view pure HDTV video materials like Blu-ray discs and HDTV broadcasts.

As we have mentioned earlier, the native resolution of this plasma TV is slightly inferior to full 1080p resolution. But, it does not turn out to be a drawback as you can comfortably watch true HD materials like a movie on Blue-ray Disc or HDTV of 720p and above. The image scaler which comes with this plasma TV adds additional pixels and improve the general picture quality when the sources don’t meet the HDTV standard. The Kuro screen, as termed by Pioneer shows remarkably deeper black levels and Pioneer boasts its screen shows 80% deeper shades. Its Pure Color Filter enhances contrast, color and reduction in light reflection on screen. Deeper black levels is another impressive feature of this Plasma and the Crystal Emissive Layer technology and 16,000 : 1 contrast ratio produce this magic and we are stunned by the excellent details shown in dark pictures. When you make proper adjustments of the colour adjustments, you get the finest colour quality which recreates the world before your eyes.
Suitable viewing angles is another vital spec of a flat panel TV and this unit has a decent wide viewing angle (more than 160) and ensures that pictures don’t suffer from color shift or picture distortion. The programmed pictures modes and colour temperature settings enable you to tweak this unit depending on the source material and environment. You also have the noise reduction settings that help you to reduce noise level when brighter pictures are displayed on the screen.
The input and output sockets are available both on rear and side panels. There are three HDMI inputs which you can use to connect any HDTV source like Blu-ray disc or TV channels.
