Sony was the first brand to introduce the commercial OLED Television in the market. They gave a smooth kick start to a new technology, OLED Display technology, with the introduction of Sony XEL-1 OLED Television in October 2007. According to the reports in the Korea Times, Sony and Samsung is expected to reveal bigger OLED screens in IFA 2009 scheduled in September 2009. Most of the gizmo freaks were expecting the 27” OLED Television from Sony right from the early days of 2009. However the XEL-2 OLED TV is anticipated to make its début by mid 2009.
It is also reported that Sony has showcased a 21” ultra-thin O-LED Television in Japan Display 2009 Event recently. As per the reports, this 21 incher is sexy device with an ultra-skinny profile comes with 1366 x 768 pixels display resolution. This ensures rocking pictures with excellent detailing and colour tones. Do not think that this is the first ultra-thin OLED venture from Sony. They have already proposed numerous appealing ultra-thin O-LED concepts right from 2006, and has also released the first commercial OLED Television too.
Sony Officials had announced that they are working on 27” ultra-thin OLED display. They also added that the display will be released within 12 months. Expected to be the latest release from Sony, the tech-freaks named it XEL-2 OLED Television. However a newer 21” screen has been exhibited in Japan recently. The 21″ display is only 1cm thick, and will make you spell bound with its wafer thin elegant design.
The contrast ratio of this television is 1,000,000:1, which is quite high. A conventional LCD Television comes with 30,000:1 contrast ratio, and this smart display is promising a almost thrice the contrast than that of an efficient LCD Television. Higher contrast ratio ensures good images with fresh and rich tonal range and razor sharp detailing too. There is no word about the pricing and release date of this 21 inch OLED prototype.

Many other display giants like LG, Samsung, Panasonic, etc. are also gaming into the OLED field to prove their technical excellence and skill set.
