LG Electronics, the display giant is readying wafer thin OLED screens to water the mouths of techno freaks and gizmomaniacs. LG is planning to fire out their 15 inch ultra thin beauty by the end of 2009. More OLED surprises are expected during the last quarter of 2009. Sony XEL-1 11inch OLED Television is the only available commercial model at present. ?LG 15 inch OLED screen will be the next member in the OLED family. Although, OLEDs are widely used in mobile phones due to their energy-efficient nature, they are highly expensive when it comes to bigger screens.
LG OLED Sales and Marketing VP, Won Kim has revealed that their 15 inch OLED screen is already into production since summer, and will be retailed during December 2009. Korea is selected as the maiden market for this svelte screen; it is speculated that the global roll out will be announced soon after the Korean launch. Compared to its existing rival, this 15 inch screen scores better in two aspects; the screen size and life time. LG claims a life time of 30,000 hours for this display.
Although LG has not let any specs out, it is speculated that this slender screen comes with HD support. Hence the display resolution will be atleast 1366 x 768 pixels. Moreover, the demo shots has fired out a guess that this screen comes with mega contrast ratio. Demoed in CES 2009, LG 15inch OLED Screen gained many hearts with its crisp, bright and life-like images. OLED displays can render better colour reproduction and slick motion images than LCD or Plasma displays. It is definitely going to be a pricey display, if you ask me.
