It was reported by a Korean newspaper that the Electronics Giant LG Electronics is also planning to pull out from the plasma display domain. It was told that LG’s VicePresident Lee Gyu- Hon announced this strategic move in an interview with Kyodo News. Following the withdrawal of Plasma kings Pioneer, some of the plasma display makers like Vizio also announced their exodus from plasma market. The remaining super powers in plasma display domain are Panasonic, LG, Hitachi and Samsung. As the withdrawal news of LG was publicized, it was predicted as the end of Plasma TV business. |
LG has denied this allegation, and Mr.George Mead, the marketing manager for digital displays of LG Electronics UK ensured that they don’t have any intention to pull out from Plasma television business. According to the marketing manager, though the major changes in PDP market are discussed in LG Head Quarters, LG Electronics UK has no idea to quit from plasma television market. Mr. Mead added that they have come up with new crafty marketing strategy for plasma televisions, and LG has announced the recent plasma lineups in UK with the advanced THX certification and wireless connectivity which shows LG’s growth opportunities in UK PDP market.
| LG has announced latest plasma line-ups like LH9000 that comes with high-end features like wireless connectivity, various HDMI connections, THX certification, etc. However LG may pull out PDP business in US, and continue the production in remaining Europe like how Philips did last year. If LG is quitting from the Plasma Television business, it may cause enormous change in the PDP market. It seems like Plasma Television domain is yet another Credit Crunch victim with the quitting of major display makers due to the heavy economic loss. Though Plasma Televisions offer much better image quality, and contrast, LCD televisions are cheaper to produce and hence are more preferable by masses in the present scenario.
