Although the advanced technologies have almost banished the nasty noises and murky blacks from the PDPs, the heavy price tag makes it inaccessible to many. LG launched a 50″ widescreen HD compatible PDP for a fair deal of £1,000. The Plasma has many video features like Black stretcher, enhanced noise reduction, key lock, input labeling, enhanced line doubler, Electronic programming guide, parental control etc. The advanced features like auto programming, channel labels, favourite channels etc are also there. The lovely looks of the TV makes it a tempting one. There is a large plastic panel that covers the entire screen. When switched off, the TV looks like a slab of darkness with a red glossy power button and the LG logo as distraction. This plasma TV is incredibly thin and stylish. The resolution of LG 50PG6900 50″ Plasma TV is 1365 x 768 pixels. The brightness is 1500 Cd/m2. The contrast ratio is as high as 30000:1, and the aspect ratio is 16:9. The response time is .001ms, which is quite astonishing.
The most important feature of this display is the integrated Freeview tuner with personal video recorder (PVR). The PVR helps to pause the live programs and record them, so that you can watch them later. There are two tuners that allow the user to record one program while watching the other. The 160GB hard disk is another highlight of this big-screen. The hard disk is capable of recording 48hours of video programs and you can watch the recorded programs with the same ease as browsing in the electronic program guide. The broadcast format displayed is 720p. The one major disappointment is the non-compatibility with the Full HD. The speakers are concealed skillfully and are powered with clear voice technology. The clear voice technology emphasises human voice, thereby reducing the background noise. This can cause dramatic audio effects while watching movies, where dialogues tend to be overshadowed by the background score. The audio system has NICAM sound system. The connectivity of LG50PG6900 is fairly good with 3 HDMI sockets (2 rear connections and one side connection), analogue connections to hook up devices like Xbox360, component, VGA, and a pair of SCART connections. The dimensions of LG50PG6900 are 1236 x 849 x 364 mm and it weighs 43.7kg. The swivel stand availed with this TV can rotate upto 20 degrees.
100Hz technology is used in LG50PG6900 that reduces flicker and motion blur. 100Hz frequency means the image is updated 100 times to produce precise and crisp output. The panel life of this PDP is 100000 hours. There are 3 AV modes-sports, video, video games, which can be switched as per the user’s requirement. The quick response time of 0.001ms shows that the TV will warm up in the wink of an eyelid. LG has incorporated many advanced features to avoid the optical fatigue. Another important feature of LG50PG6900 is 24fps compatibility. The remote control is user friendly, and the buttons are decently sized, which wont cause any worries for people with larger fingers.
LG 50PG6900 50″ Widescreen Plasma TV is quite brilliant in papers, but the picture quality is not good. The free view picture quality is awful with garish bright images which is perfect for an animation movie or cartoon. The video games look amazing with well-detailed bright colour tones in this device, though it is equally unbearable watching a Freeview program. Another annoying trouble is the image retention. The image rendering is much better if you switch from the dynamic mode, but many other types of plasma Tvs give better picture quality. Considering all these facts, it is better to settle down with a smaller Plasma TV for the same price.
