Vizio Biding Goodbye To Plasma Display Industry

February 25, 2009

Vizio the plasma display manufacturers are also following the path of Pioneer, the king display makers in Plasma industry. Vizio, the upstart brand that sell plasma televisions in comparatively lower prices has decided to stop manufacturing the plasma televisions, and to focus in LCD display manufacturing. This Southern California based company sell inexpensive televisions in warehouse stores like Costco, Sam’s club, etc. Vizio offers wide range in both LCD and Plasma display models, and light price tag is considered as the biggest attraction of Vizio displays.

Plasma television is considered to be good companion for home theatre systems, and Vizio provided inexpensive and high performance plasma televisions. With Vizio’s exodus, only three more big manufacturers are left in plasma television domain, and they being Panasonic, LG and Samsung. According to the recent surveys, LCD displays outsells plasma televisions in 7:1 proportion. No wonder why Vizio changed its domain to LCD displays where competition is high.

One important factor about LCD televisions is that it fares well in a normally lit room, while plasma televisions has an upper sway in darker room settings. However it is not yet time to write off Plasma displays, since there are 20% increase in the shipment of plasma displays and a total 10% increase in the yearly sales (2008 survey) while that of LCD Television is dropped by 2% in 2008. The fact that plasma Televisions are less expensive than a similar sized LCD Television may favour plasma screens especially in the current scenario of the global melt down.
