Plasma TV vs LCD TV

plasma tv vs lcd tv Plasma TV vs LCD TVPlasma TV vs LCD TV is quite a complicated topic, true, still it can be deciphered and sorted out. Actually, they are 2 competing technologies that go on to produce similar on-screen results such as bright images, crystal clear pictures, super colour saturation, great contrasts and of course, excellent picture clarity. To complicate things further, they come with flat screens and minimal depths of 5 inches and below. And, as if to complicate your decision making process even further, their price and sizes, which were two previous considerations, are quite rapidly becoming non-issues, since LCD TVs are being manufactured in larger sizes and also come at competing prices with the Plasma TVs.

Despite similarities, their technologies differ. Plasma TVs consist of individual pixels, they are in fact fluorescent light bulbs filled with natural gases such as xenon and neon, that get excited and makes them glow, when electricity passes through them, thus producing light that illuminates with the proper balance of colours, resulting in on-screen Plasma displays. A LCD TV, on the other hand, contains cells filled with liquid crystals, which glow when electricity passes through, thus producing light and colours from a spectrum till they achieve the right levels, with the assistance of a lamp behind the screen, and, finally, light passes through its liquid crystal matrix, resulting in LCD image displays.

Plasma TVs display better picture quality in terms of low lighting conditions, while, LCD TVs display better picture quality in bright lighting environments. Plasma TVs display excellent performance levels in terms of fast moving images and also high contrasts, while, LCD TVs display static images extremely well with full colour details and literally no screen burn-in. Plasma TV performance is affected at high altitudes, whereas, LCD TV performance remains consistent regardless of altitude. Plasma TVs have more power consumption, while, LCD TVs consume much lesser power. And, last but not the least, the durability factor – Plasma TVs and LCD TVs of today boast of an average lifespan of 100,000 hours. Based on their various performance factors, and their various advantages and disadvantages, one can say that, overall, both Plasma TVs and LCD TVs are joint winners.
