Picture Resolutions in Televisions

tv resolutions 300x206 Picture Resolutions in TelevisionsThe main reason for high definition television pictures to look much more clearer and sharper than the regular television is the television’s resolution. A television’s resolution is measured up in pixels. More pixels would therefore mean better resolution. While the traditional CRTs were offering an equivalent of 300,000 pixels, today’s HDTVs offer much much more, with some televisions offering up to one or two million pixels. All these additional pixels naturally mean better picture quality. Talking of Resolutions, you need to look at two types of displays here – the TV screen resolution and the video source resolution such as the DVD player, cable box etc. Both these are important since one can affect the other in terms of determining the best possible picture quality for optimum TV viewing.

Today’s HDTVs feature a fixed number of pixels for producing pictures. This includes all the varieties of televisions such as the Plasma TV, LCD and the likes. The fixed pixel displays of all these televisions are enabled with a native resolution level that clearly spells out the maximum level of image details that a TV can produce as such. The most common resolution levels are 768p and 1080p with the listings as 1366 x 768 pixels and 1920 x 1080 pixels – this tells you exactly as to how many pixels the screen contains with the first number representing the horizontal resolution and the second number representing the vertical resolution. The multiplication of these two numbers is the total pixel count. Typically, 1920 x 1080 would be an equivalent of 2,073,600 pixels, simplified as 2 million while 1366 x 768 would be 1 million. Common high definition video sources are the cable signals as well as the satellite signals with typical display formats of the 720p progressive scan format and the 1080i interlaced format.

The most popular and the much talked about high definition format is 1080p that has the rare combination of 1080i superior resolution and the 720p progressive scan smoothness. In fact, 1080p television screen resolutions are the order of the day. One of the main reasons as to why 1080p televisions are so popular is that they have the capacity to display every pixel in every available high definition resolution, so that all the finest details are captured. Flatscreen TVs with sleek, slender and stylish looks with great picture resolutions are a visual treat to watch with impeccable picture quality.
