There is no need to introduce Panasonic, the globally renowned brand in consumer electronics!!! Of late, Panny has been showcasing its wizardry in television industry with the introduction of highly innovative and revolutionary VIERA displays and Neo PDP Plasma panels. As “greenovation” is the new strategy embraced by LCD panels, plasma sales plummeted drastically as they consume much more power compared to the LCD counterparts. All plasma enthusiasts and display watchers were digging the grave for plasma display panels ; Panasonic introduced the revolutionary NeoPDP panels that is highly energy efficient(even beats LCD in energy efficiency) there by beefing up the plasma sales considerably.
Now Panny has decided to give a try in OLED television domain too. OLED was a one man show from Sony till the date. Although many experimental prototypes has been released so far, Sony XEL OLED Television is the first commercial ready to use OLED TV. It costs a bomb; don’t you think $1500 is too expensive for a 11 incher display??? With stiff competition going on between Sony and Panasonic for “The Best” title in LCD industry, whistle is blown for a new game in OLED domain too with the announcement of Panny’s début to OLED industry.
Panasonic partners with Sumitomo Chemicals Corp. to formulate the highly efficient OLED panels. It is appreciable that Panny is going for larger OLED displays like 37” and 40”. Sony had announced the launch of 27” XEL-2 OLED Television last year itself; however it has not turned out yet!!! Following Panny’s début announcement, Sony has revealed that the advanced Sony XEL-2 display will be released in September. As per the business daily Nikkei, Panasonic and Sumitomo jointly ventures to devise the 40” OLED panel as their maiden product.
| Panasonic has also dropped a hint that the company intends to venture out more in the OLED domain, and has plans to collaborate with other tech-giants to produce high quality displays. Speculative minds have already linked these words with an earlier rumour of Panny teaming up with Toshiba to breed high quality O-LED Televisions. OLED Panels are expected to be manufactured in the IPS Alpha factory set up by Panny lately. Panasonic O-LED displays are expected to be released within 2010. All the industry watchers are pretty sure that Panasonic OLED display will be right on heels compared to the Sony OLED televisions. It is also speculated that the 40 incher from Panny may even beat the 11” Sony display. | ![]() |
