OLED Television!!! It has become the last word for energy efficiency and picture clarity among the televisions till date. With the svelte design and charming features, OLED has already gained the attention of almost all the major powers in the display sector. Following Sony’s footsteps, all the leading screen manufacturers are stepping into this arena. Their main goal is to come up with cost effective OLED displays. At present, OLED televisions are restricted to smaller sizes; 11 inch being the current screen size of the recently released OLED display. By 2010, we can expect bigger OLED screens as majority of the bigger players like Samsung and Panasonic have promised 40-inch OLED displays.
Currently, price is the major obstacle that prevents people from owning an OLED television. However, the market predictions look towards the release of cost effective and affordable models. This prediction is expected to become a reality by 2012 Olympic Games that is scheduled to be hosted in London. At present, the only available OLED television is the 3mm slim beauty from Sony labeled Sony XEL-1 OLED Television. It is known fact that Sony has put forward the larger 21 and 27 prototypes in the Display Expo conducted recently in Japan. Moreover, CES 2009 has also witnessed the rise of this new technology with the increased number of prototypes and ready to use commercial screens.
Market analysts reveal that this brand-new technology can dislodge the existing LCD and Plasma display technologies in three years with its high energy efficiency and ultra-thin design. There are many reasons for making the OLED Television widely acceptable.
With the increasing concern about the depleting natural resources, it is mandate to conserve energy and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. The OLED screen are out to fulfil the former environmental goal with its energy efficient models. Owing to the lower rate of energy consumption, the overall maintenance cost of the telly is also greatly reduced making it the first choice when it comes to television sets.
The Mega contrast functionality offered by OLED TVs help to render lively picture quality. In this aspect, these OLEDs are said to be much more efficient than the plasma televisions. The HD OLED television has already been exhibited by the Japanese Display King, Sony. Expected to hit the market by Christmas, this 21-inch HD OLED Display comes with a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
Although, OLED outwits the existing display technologies in almost all aspects, it will gain popularity only when it comes with affordable price label. OLED has made its entry in almost all consumer electronics domains like digital cameras, laptops, etc. Apple’s plan to launch a 15-inch OLED laptop is an example of the entry of this high-end technology in other niches.
