One of the advantages attributed to plasma television is the absence of motion blurs occurring on the screen especially while watching fast movie sequences. There are two reasons for this. One is the high refresh rates and the other is the low response time available in all brands of plasma television.
Plasma manufacturers and dealers highlight this fact in order to convince the consumers that plasma have many advantages over the LCD Television or CRT televisions. Generally the LCD products suffer from motion blurs due to the high response time provided in them. By virtue of its design and the technology adopted therein, plasma television has an inherent advantage of low response time, making the products free from the anomaly.
To understand the relevance of response time, it is necessary to find out what does it means in the context of the television. Response time represents the time taken by a pixel on the screen to move from black to white and return conversely. It is a process undergone by the pixels to allow light to pass through them and then block the same.
Response time is measured in milli seconds (ms) and the superior quality brand of plasma television offer response time as low as 1ms. The superb quality of output in the plasma especially while watching fast moving sequences like sport events or action movies is attributed to this remarkable phenomenon.
Leading brands of plasma televisions like Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, LG etc are providing response time of 1ms in their latest models, where as LCD products are having a minimum of 5ms. As already mentioned, the reason for the absence of motion blur etc on plasma screen is due to this lowest response time. Notwithstanding the claims of the manufacturers in respect of response time as indicated in the users’ manual or web pages, experts are pointing out that there is no universally recognized standard to measure the response time.
Each company adopts their own unique scales to measure the response time. As such market watchers are skeptical about the reliability of the data provided by the manufacturing companies. But they do agree that plasma television is best suited for watching action sequences than other categories. They also agree that lower response time is an important factor that contributes towards this positive aspect.
The latest Panasonic plasma television has claimed to have 0.001 seconds response time. Samsung also has 0.001seconds in some of the plasma models. Similarly all modern market leaders in the industry offer plasma widescreen television with response time as low as 1ms. But irrespective of the claimed rates of response time, the end results of all such products are superb which could earn consumer appreciation.
