HDMI inputs is regarded as the futuristic connectivity option in the present day displays. It is the only industry supported interface that provides uncompressed audio/video signals, which inturn adds to the clarity of the output signals. HDMI has simplified the display cabling dramatically, and helps in providing the ultimate home theater experience to the consumers with the single cable connection for both audio and video signals. The interconnection of any audio/video digital device like set top box, gaming consoles, play station 3, digital TV, DVD player, etc are possible with the single HDMI connection. |
The HDMI was conceptualized by a team of designers from almost all leading manufacturers like Panasonic, Hitachi, Sony, Philips, Thomson(RCA), Silicon Image, Toshiba, etc. Moreover HDMI is supported by major motion picture producers, cable labs and system operators like Echostar, Direct TV, etc too. HDMI is capable of supporting standard video or HD Video along with audio channels, all via single cable. It can transmit all ATSC HDTV standards, and can manage eight channels, 192kHz uncompressed digital audio signals as well as the available compressed ones like DTS, Dolby digital, etc. HDMI 1.3 offers more bandwidth for futuristic purposes, and also supports new digital formats like Dolby True HD, DTS HD Master audio, etc.
Advantages of HDMI inputs

HDMI inputs have an upper sway over other analogue video interfaces. The first and foremost advantage of HDMI is the supreme quality video signals offered. Since this is a digital interface, the lossy analog to digital conversions are not present, thereby improving the clarity and quality of the video outputs considerably. The higher the resolution, the better is the enhancement effects due to HDMI. Ease of use is another noteworthy feature of this digital convergence.Video and multi-channel audio are blended into the single cable thereby making the cabling cost effective and easy to use. These digital inputs are intelligent enough to support two way communication, and this enables the sophisticated features like automatic configuration, one touch play, etc. Moreover these HDMI inputs are HDCP compatible, which makes it HD-Ready. HDMI is the interface between the computer and consumer electronics devices, and is opting newer versions seamlessly with the advent of technology, the latest being HDMI 1.3 inputs. |
HDMI 1.3 inputs
HDMI inputs comes in various versions like HDMI 1.1, HDMI 1.2, HDMI 1.2a, HDMI 1.3, etc. HDMI 1.1 supports the DVD audio while 1.2 offers more better functionalities like one bit audio format, futuristic PC compatibility, etc. then came HDMI 1.2a with CEC (Consumer Electronics control) and many additional features like a wide range of approved connector compatibility, superior video outputs, etc. However the basic motto of technology is the never-ending improvement, and eventually HDMI 1.3 inputs were launched.
HDMI1.3 inputs offers high speed connections as the single link bandwidth is improvised to 340MHz. This bandwidth is suffice enough to support futuristic HD devices with high resolution, better frame rates and deep colour. Another important feature of HDMI 1.3 is deep colour that helps to augment the picture quality by widening the colour gamut offered by the screen. HDMI 1.3 supports colour depths like 10bit, 12 bit, 16bit, etc to offer vibrant images with one billion colour tones and flaunting details while the older versions supported 8bit only.
Broader colour space is yet another salient feature of HDMI 1.3 inputs that supports x.v.colour, thereby eliminating the colour limitations and displaying all possible colours that can be detected by human eye. Mini-connector helps to connect smaller HD devices like camcorders, still cameras, etc. Lip-Sync, the automatic synchronisation process that helps in accurate audio and video syncing is yet another factor that gives HDMI 1.3 an upper hand over other versions. HD Lossless audio formats like Dolby True HD, DTS HD- Master Audio, etc also helps in improvising the enhancements for better output signals.

Why Do You Need HDMI 1.3 Inputs?
The HDMI 1.3 input is a futuristic technology, and most of the present day devices comes with older version HDMI only. Though the gaming consoles and PC games may use this colour gamut first, the backward compatibility of HDMI 1.3 inputs makes it compatible with the older version HDMIs too. You will need an HDMI 1.3 input if you have a movie or media encoded in the latest xvycc colourspace. Moreover if your HDTV player process 30, 36, 48bit data etc, or if your display has Wide Colour Gamut Backlight settings, then you may need the latest HDMI versions. If your player has the advanced lossless audio formats or is HDMI 1.3 compliant, then it is better to have HDMI 1.3 inputs in your display too.
It is the connectivity option required in future, as most of the products still come with the older HDMI versions. Though the latest HDMI inputs are truly good, it is not significant enough to be treated as the deal breaking factor, atleast currently when HDMI 1.3 is in its growing state.
